Most people do not realize that Family Practice is a specialty!
Family physicians are the backbone of the community health system. Concerned with the total health care of the individual and the family, and trained in all areas of medicine, DR. MASRI can diagnose and treat the full range of problems people typically bring to their doctor.
The specialty of Family Practice began in the United States in 1969 as a response to the growing trend of increased specialization and sub specialization among U.S. physicians. The American public became increasingly frustrated with fragmentation of care caused by the trend of going to a different doctor for virtually every organ system.
In order to be certified by the American Board of Family Practice, DR. ADDAM MASRI completed a three year residency program which included training in internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, psychiatry, community medicine and geriatrics, and passed a certification examination given by the American Board of Family Physicians (ABFP) in 1990.
This certification examination must be retaken every 7 years in order for DR. MASRI to have maintained his board certification by the ABFP. The ABFP also requires its members to undergo ongoing continuing medical education (CME) and requires a minimum of 50 hours of CME annually which has been approved by the ABFP to maintain board certification.
Few other specialties had such rigorous requirements of their members for maintaining board certification, but thanks to the model put forth by the ABFP many are revising their standards to come in line with the standard set by the ABFP.
In addition to being experts in prevention and health promotion, with the wide variety of services MASRI MEDICAL provides, we are also capable of treating most acute illnesses and helping people effectively manage chronic medical problems. His care is based on knowledge of his patients in the context of the family and the community. In fact, family medicine doctors are trained to manage 90-95% of the issues that patients bring to the office.
He knows how to care for you and, if necessary, when to bring in another specialist you can trust. He will be at the center of your care, coordinating and guiding you through what can be a very confusing and fragmented health care system. He serves as the patient’s advocate in dealing with other medical professionals, third party payers, employers and others, and as such is a cost-effective coordinator of health services.
